A man named Martínez Parada, 56, was arrested on Sunday, July 7, at the Juan Santamaría International Airport for allegedly participating in an organization specialized in registration fraud and investigated as Motherland Casemust serve one year of preventive detention. The measure was imposed by the San Jose Criminal Court after a hearing on Wednesday this week.
According to an official statement from the Ministry of Public Affairs, the suspect, a lawyer and notary, was arrested when entering the country on a flight from Spain. The General Directorate of Immigration and Immigration detailed that Martinez was arrested at an immigration control point at the airport after he received an alert in the system.
The Prosecutor’s Office, which has retained the investigation under file 22-005018-0042-PE, is investigating suspected crimes such as ideological falsehood, use of false documents, major fraud, money laundering, prosecutorial impunity and bribery.
As a result of these incidents, 20 additional persons were placed in preventive detention and nine others were undergoing other types of preventive measures.
