Moroccans living abroad are marking the 25th anniversary of the accession to the throne of King Mohammed VI, who has ruled the North African country since 1999.

The Moroccan Embassy in Doha issued a statement on Tuesday to mark the 25th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s accession to the throne, highlighting the extraordinary achievements and significant progress in Morocco-Qatar relations.

“I want to emphasize the excellence and uniqueness of the relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the brotherly country of Qatar, thanks to the deep brotherly ties between King Mohammed VI and His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani,” Morocco’s ambassador to Qatar, Mohammed Setri, said in the statement.

The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has sent a congratulatory message to King Mohammed VI of the Kingdom of Morocco on his accession to the throne.

The celebration also coincides with the Qatar Museums Year of Culture campaign, which designates 2024 as the Qatar-Morocco Year of Culture, which Ambassador Setri appreciated.

He called it an “auspicious opportunity to allow our Qatari brothers and sisters, as well as the residents of the State of Qatar, to learn not only about Morocco’s rich historical heritage and civilization, but also about its contemporary achievements, through a rich and comprehensive programme of activities,” the statement said.

The partnership will see more than 80 events held throughout the year in Qatar and Morocco.

The events aim to highlight a range of cultural elements including social development, cultural heritage, creative industries and innovation.
