Bilal Taghi, a French-Moroccan jihadist sentenced in 2019 to 28 years in prison for attempting to assassinate two guards at Osny prison (Val d’Oise), has just been stripped of his French nationality.
“By decree of August 5, 2024, with the consent of the Council of State, Mr. Bilal Taji is deprived of French nationality,” said a decree published in the Official Gazette on Wednesday. The 32-year-old, affiliated with the Islamic State group, was serving a five-year sentence in Osne prison for attempting to murder two guards with a homemade knife.

Bilal Taji, a 24-year-old Moroccan at the time of the murder, immediately confessed and threatened that he would not hesitate to do it again if given the chance. During the trial, he assured that he had repented and renounced the ideology of the Islamic State.

Following the attack at Osne prison centre, French authorities reviewed the management of radicalised prisoners in prisons and set up “radicalisation assessment zones” (QERs). There are currently six in the country.
