In a letter to King Felipe VI dated August 7, Efei The Moroccans, from the Sidi Ifni province, 900 km south of Rabat, which was part of the Spanish protectorate between 1934 and 1969, demanded Spanish nationality and the inclusion of Spanish language instruction in the local education system.

The same source recalled that the letter was sent on the 55th anniversary of the handover of Sidi Ifni to the Moroccan authorities by dictator and general Francisco Franco. In the letter, the group, called “July 25 of Ifni”, stressed the historical and legal ties of Sidi Ifni to Spain and expressed to the king the difficulties they had in obtaining Spanish nationality, unlike the Sephardic Jews who have benefited from the ease of naturalization in recent years.
