More than 60,000 tons of fruits and vegetables shipped from China to Mongolia
// People’s Daily
Central Asia (MNG) – On Thursday, the usually tense working atmosphere prevailed at the Erenhot checkpoint in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (northern China), as 22 refrigerated container trucks loaded with fresh vegetables and fruits passed customs inspection, ready to be sent to neighboring Mongolia.
Erenhot is the largest land border port between China and Mongolia. According to customs data, more than 60,000 tons of vegetables and fruits have been transported to Mongolia through Erenhot so far this year, with a total value of 283 million yuan (about 40 million U.S. dollars).
Zhang Yucheng, general manager of Erlianhot Haogang Import and Export Company, has witnessed with his own eyes that Mongolia’s demand for Chinese vegetables, fruits and other agricultural products has been growing steadily in recent years.
According to him, the export volume of vegetables and fruits of the company to Mongolia has increased dramatically since this year, mainly including green peppers, cucumbers, broccoli, apples, pears, bananas, etc.
To ensure the freshness of agricultural products for importers, the Erenhot Port opened a “green corridor” in 2018 and implemented a “no waiting, no delay” fast customs clearance system. According to customs statistics, a total of 607,600 tons of vegetables and fruits have been cleared since the customs clearance, with a value of 1.48 billion yuan.
