More than 60 areas in Rio Grande state still without power – Metro Puerto Rico

A week after Storm Ernesto made a close pass over the island, Rio Grande Mayor Ángel “Bori” González Damudt called on LUMA Energy to send more troops to the city to restore power service to about 60 areas.

“We have been following the situation very closely and working closely. Our teams have been working hard so that LUMA Energy employees can do their job efficiently. If we had left everything to them, we would have faced a situation where more departments would still be without power. We are always willing to help, but it is Luma’s responsibility to send enough personnel to the municipalities,” said González Damudt.

According to the mayor, many areas are without electricity service, including Carretera 191, Barcelona, ​​La Vega, Colinas del Yunque, Las 3T, Hacienda Jiménez, Muñiz Muñiz, Colinas de las 3T, Camino Laureano, Camino Crispín, Jiménez Arriba, Parcelas Dávilas, Bella Vista, Los Burgos, El Verde Home, El Verde High, Galato del Verde, Bartolo, Pueblo De Amos, La Vega Guzmán, La Gomera, Camino Los Mederos, Camino Serra, Morovis and all its roads, including the water plant in Morovis. Also affected are the neighborhoods of Guzmán Arriba, El Rayo, Las Yayas, Camino La Pollera, Camino Pizza, Camino Los Riveras, Medina, Camino Papo Nina, Ciénaga Arriba and its roads, Los Márquez, El Toronjo, Las Ruedas Blancas, Los García, Camino Mariluz Dones in Betel, Los Villalongo, Maneco Rivera, Malpica Calle 18, Mal pica Calle 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, Monte Flores, Luz Bella, Camino Los Mayaguez, Estancias del Sol (2 Streets), Villa Realidad (two streets), Estancias del Madrigal (one street), Las Yayas, Carola, Viuda Pagán, Zarzal, Mavi, Camino Los González and several roads in Palmer.

The mayor expressed deep concern over the slow restoration of electricity services in these sectors, which has also affected drinking water services.

“It is unacceptable that to this day we still have so many families without electricity and water. This is not something I am told. I have experienced and witnessed it firsthand in every case we have visited. The Rio Grande City Government has been available to work with us and help speed up the process, as we have done in recent days, but we need LUMA to fulfill its responsibilities 100%,” stressed the mayor.

The first city administrator urgently called on LUMA Energy to send more troops to the Rio Grande town to speed up the energy restoration process.

“Our territory is vast and we need more personnel working in the Rio Grande so that all our citizens have access to basic services. Many lives depend on this and I will not rest until our people are 100% full and functional,” he noted.

“We are in a desperate phase and have been for a week. These homes house babies, children, elderly people, bedridden people, children with autism and people who rely on energy equipment to live, among others. In addition, this situation affects the mental health of our people. Therefore, I call on LUMA Energy to send more personnel to Rio Grande. We offer alternatives, such as assigning personnel from the Electricity Authority. We need flexibility in this process,” the mayor stressed.
