More cities to be without power Saturday amid blackout crisis – Metro Puerto Rico

LUMA Energy, the private company responsible for the transmission and distribution of the island’s electricity system, announced that it would be carrying out various maintenance works over the weekend, which could put several sectors out of service.

This is happening during a crisis in which the government has been asked to declare a state of emergency due to a lack of services in the municipalities of Santa Isabel, Coamo and El Bonito.

According to reports, in the “Planned Improvements” section of the LUMA Energy portal, maintenance work will be carried out in the Adjuntas, San Juan, Bayamón and Aibonito regions on Saturday, June 8. The latter is one of the municipalities affected by the blackouts that began last week.

Here’s what LUMA Energy will be doing:

Abonito

Replacement and repair work of power lines and equipment will be carried out from 6am to 6pm on Saturday. This will affect the areas of Barrio Llanos, Extension Barriada San Luis, Calle Domingo Colón, Urbanización Jaibonito, Sector El Campito, Parcelas Los Cuadritos, Sector El Cerro and Mansiones de Asomante.

Included

From 7am to 7pm, restoration and modernization works of the substation will be carried out and these works will affect the following areas: Adjuntas Cemetery, Guilarte Community, Francisco Pietri Mariani School, Cerro Novillo Sector, Cuesta Los Hernández Sector, Cuesta Maldonado Sector, El Majagual District, El Valle District, Helechales District, La Llorosa District, Las Casitas District, Similar Fifth District, Salicetti and Batista District, Villa Pérez District, Loma Santa District, Palo Seco District and Yahuecas Arriba.

Bayamon

Work will begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue until 4:00 p.m. This will affect sections of Avenida Lomas Verdes, Calle Cristaneo, Calle Astromeda, Calle Cruz de Malta, in order to increase the resilience of the poles.

San Juan

7:00 AM to 7:00 PM: Restoration and modernization of electric poles in the Figueroa neighborhood of the Gandul district.

7:00 AM to 6:00 PM: Working to improve the resiliency of utility poles in the Minao community.

Dark sector

As of this writing, approximately 19,224 customers were without power service around 6:30 a.m. Saturday. The majority of those were in the Ponce area, where 10,663 people were without service.
