Mopti region descends into chaos

Mali, already weakened by a severe security crisis, has once again become the scene of deadly conflict. The Mopti region, located in the center of the country, has been particularly affected by violence between Malian armed forces and jihadist groups.

The pain of violence and insecurity

These recurring conflicts have had disastrous consequences for civilians. Villages are frequently targeted, schools and health centres are looted, and the number of displaced populations continues to grow. Attack attributed to Katiba

“On Monday, August 7, 2024, at around 6:30 pm, a terrorist attack was committed against the security post of Kuwakourou in the Mopti region,” the Malian General Staff said. No official report has been communicated. The attack was attributed to Katiba Macina, a group affiliated with al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.
