At around 8.35pm on Tuesday 27 August, Kwatta police received a call reporting that a moped had been hit in Ramlakhanstraat and that shots might have been fired.
The victim told police he was intentionally hit by the driver of a black pickup truck, which struck a stationary vehicle.
After the collision, the pickup truck driver returned and fired three shots in the direction of the victim before driving away. Fortunately, the victim was not injured.
The case has been transferred to the Central Suriname Criminal Investigation Department. An investigation has been launched and the suspect FJ has been identified and arrested.
FJ made a full confession. The pistol with which he shot the victim was confiscated.
After consultation with the prosecutor’s office, suspect FJ was detained on charges of attempted manslaughter, attempted murder and violations of firearms laws.
The investigation is ongoing.
