Mohamed Laroussi Halleb has left us

Mohamed Laroussi Halleb, agricultural engineer, former CEO of the National Fisheries Office and IMF official, died in Tunisia on August 12, 2024 at the age of 83.

Born on April 17, 1941 in Teboulba (Monastir governorate), he completed his secondary education at the Sousse Boys’ High School and subsequently obtained a diploma in agricultural engineering.

He held important positions in the civil service and was a member of several ministerial cabinets, including as Minister of Finance, Minister of Commerce, and Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, before being appointed Director General of the National Fisheries Agency at a particularly delicate time.

Mr. Haleb also worked at the International Monetary Fund in Washington and was a founding member of several institutions, including the Habitat Bank.

An old friend paid tribute to him as “the embodiment of the values ​​of the independent republic, who served our dear country with vision, skills, values ​​and noble human qualities”. As one of the builders of modern Tunisia, he left a mark on his colleagues, his team and his family with his loyalty, commitment and integrity.
