Mogadishu – Yusuf Hussein Jimale Madaale, Governor of Banadir State and Mayor of Mogadishu, along with Dr. Mohamed Hassan Bullale, Deputy Minister of Health, visited the injured victims of the Al-Shabaab attack Suicide attacks and shootings Friday night at Liido Beach in Mogadishu.
Officials visited several hospitals and took reports from doctors treating the injured. They also donated blood to the victims. Mayor Madal urged doctors and medical centers to provide the best care to the victims and pledged support from the Banadir regional government for the injured.
A suicide bombing and shooting at a restaurant on Mogadishu’s Lido Beach killed at least 15 people and injured 140. The explosion occurred as people were swimming and dining at the popular beach. Mogadishu hospitals have appealed for blood donations due to the high number of injured.
Many people gathered at the Digfo Hospital (Erdogan Hospital) in Mogadishu, where the names of the injured were read out over a loudspeaker. The East African al-Qaeda affiliate al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack on its radio station.
Security forces killed five al-Shabaab attackers who attacked the beach, including a suicide bomber who launched the attack. Security forces evacuated many civilians from the area and safely dismantled a vehicle packed with explosives that was parked nearby.
