The Islamic Research Department of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs published the 204th issue of the series “The Book of the Nation”, titled “National Identity and Social Cohesion…A Study on the Problem of Belonging to Islam in Contemporary Thought and Islamic Jurisprudence”.
In a statement, the government explained that the new issue of Dr. Mohammed Mahmoud Gamal discusses the issue of national identity in six parts, establishes the values of national identity, explains the impact of national identity on strengthening the values of belonging, reveals the importance of religion in establishing common humanity, eliminating conflicts between different circles of belonging, and examines the extent to which the foundations of contemporary national identity are consistent with the provisions of Islamic law.
The book illuminates the challenges facing national identity and sovereignty, especially in light of globalization, so-called universal rights among nations, the emergence of international alliances and their impact and consequences on nations, especially developing countries, the emergence of civilizational, religious and ethnic identities, the growth of transnational social forces, the dominance of liberalism and its dispersion of borders and belonging.
