During a brief courtesy call, Minister Seleso acknowledged the deep and meaningful relationship between Solomon Islands and Japan dating back to 1978 when the country gained political independence.
The Minister of Rural Development, Rollen Seleso, recently received a courtesy visit from the Ambassador of Japan, His Excellency MIWA Yoshiaki.
During a brief courtesy call, Minister Seleso acknowledged the deep and meaningful relationship between Solomon Islands and Japan dating back to 1978 when the country gained political independence.
Minister Seleso said that as a sincere friend of Tanzania, Japan has made significant contributions to Tanzania’s socio-economic and rural development.
He also expressed gratitude for the invaluable assistance and support that Japan continues to provide to the country.
He said that Solomon Islands has had a pleasant journey with Japan since gaining political independence and continues to benefit from Japan’s many development projects.
Meanwhile, Japanese Ambassador Miwa said it is very important to empower rural people, further stating that proper infrastructure development remains crucial to attract development in rural areas, especially for social and economic transformation.
His Excellency Miwa also took the opportunity to inform Minister Seleso about the projects in the fields of forestry, fisheries, agriculture, health, education and infrastructure that Japan is implementing in the country in collaboration with other government ministries and agencies.
Minister Seleso also briefed His Excellency MIWA on the development challenges facing the country and briefed him on the role and functions of his Department (MRD) and how government services are delivered to the rural people, especially to improve the lives of rural people through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) scheme.
He also briefed His Excellency MIWA on the new CDF Act 2023 and the priorities of the MRD, which include the establishment of District Development Growth Centres (CDGCs) in 50 constituencies to ensure that rural people have access to services.
It was a fruitful meeting during which the two leaders also discussed potential areas of cooperation to further strengthen their bilateral cooperation projects.
