Jakarta(ANTARA) –
Industry Minister Agus Gumiwan Katasamita said high quality or premium products can drive public consumption and market demand for processed food and beverage products such as tea, cocoa, coffee, fruits and milk.

The minister said more and more consumers are paying attention to high-quality products that are sustainably processed using the latest technology. This can boost this consumption and demand trend.

“Indonesia’s biodiversity offers very broad potential for the production of high-quality products,” he said in Jakarta on Monday.

He explained that quality products can be measured by certain parameters such as aroma, taste, standards and special regulations.

Therefore, a quality product cycle can be created through the participation of multiple parties, starting with farmers as providers of raw materials, to distributors, roasters, baristas and consumers.

Putu Juli Ardika, director of the Agro-Industry Directorate at the Ministry of Industry, said that in order to encourage consumption and market demand for high-quality processed food and beverage products made from coffee, cocoa, fruit, tea and milk, he will hold a business matchmaking event for Indonesian specialty products from August 5 to 8, 2024 at the Ministry of Industry’s office in Jakarta.

The event, which saw the participation of 44 companies from the food and beverage industry, aimed to promote the development of special products by bringing together business players and buyers, and to attract interest from the wider community.

“This event reflects our commitment to implement import substitution, dominate the domestic market, develop export potential and encourage the development of specialty products,” he said.

In the first quarter of 2024, the food and beverage industry contributed 39.91% to the non-oil and gas industry’s gross domestic product (GDP) and 6.97% to the national GDP.

The industry is growing at an annual rate of 5.87%.
