New Democracy MP Melvin Bouva asked on Thursday during a round of interruptions in the National Assembly (DNA) whether Minister of Education, Science and Culture Henry Ori (OWC) had actually recruited his brother to oversee the construction of the school building in Suriname.
Waterkant.Net’s research shows that the Minister did recruit his brother to the ministry for the said job.
In addition, Minister Ori also allocated positions to friends at a football club. The Minister is busy retrenchment while continuing to implement the “friends and family” policy.
Ori announced in an April press release that 500 employees had been laid off from OWC’s workforce. In addition, he said 1,032 “ghost officers” had been identified and would be removed.
The minister said the reorganization would save a lot of resources and the freed resources would be effectively used to improve the education system. With new troops and new salaries, Ori could not change much.
