Damascus (SANA) – Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Bessam Ibrahim discussed with UNFPA Syria Representative Muriel Mafiko and her accompanying delegation the mechanisms of joint cooperation in the scientific field and support for scientific research in the medical and social fields.
Minister Ibrahim noted the support of the United Nations Population Fund and its support to Syria during the war and the economic blockade imposed by the West on it, and drew attention to the work done by the Fund to support the training of hospitals and the provision of medical supplies and equipment.
Minister Ibrahim also stressed the mutual desire to develop existing cooperation and the Ministry’s willingness to make available existing facilities and capabilities of universities and hospitals to establish joint scientific research projects.
In this regard, the representative of the United Nations Population Fund confirmed that the Fund will continue to provide support in various areas to achieve national development goals in the areas of population, development and health services, noting the importance of research supported by the Ministry, as well as the Fund for Sociology, Reproductive Health and Social Issues.
