Minister of Education resumes dialogue with General Federation of Secondary Education

« We agreed with the Ministry on Sunday, August 25, 2024 to resume negotiations », announced Mohamed Safi, secretary general of the General Union of Secondary Education, part of the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT), on Monday, August 26, 2024. The meeting is scheduled for 8:30 am that day. These are his words on the microphone of Hatem Ben Amara on the Sbeh El Ward show on Jawhara FM.

And in response to the host’s question, he specifically stated: “ From the first reaction to the appointment of the new Minister of Education, the Director of Human Resources in the Ministry contacted us to resume the dialogue ».

Nevertheless, he noted that the regional days of rage were still going ahead as planned and that this was an executive decision that could only be lifted by the executive.

The union members stressed in this context that the directors and supervisors’ files are only one of the topics. Therefore, the new minister will have several issues to resolve before the start of the upcoming academic year.

He also assured when answering the host’s question: We are open to dialogue and our goal is to return to the dialogue table. The issues that led to this could have been resolved, but the former minister took another path, we don’t know for what reason. And, we valued it on April 18-20, 2024. However, after April 25, it took another path, which led to this ».

And finalized: ” We are willing to talk and negotiate, but we don’t want to be a decoration. ».

Comment ReorganizationMohammad Safi argued: The ministerial reshuffle is a matter of concern to the State and its head, the President of the Republic. Moreover, this change concerns not only the Ministry of Education, but most ministries. We are dealing with the entire process and policy followed by the State, not with specific individuals, whether the outgoing Minister or the incoming one. We have a set of demands and agreements, and as a Union we are obliged to guarantee the best conditions for education.

Our message to all newcomers is that the secondary education sector will not hesitate to defend the economic and moral rights of teachers. ».
