Oranjestad: Recently, Minister Endy Kroos met with Franklin Souter, author and speaker of the book “Living Rich in the Netherlands”. The young Aruban studied mechatronics at the Avans Hogeschool in Breda and is currently working in the Netherlands. During Franklin’s academic career, he noticed a lack of information about student money management. In response to this problem, he did a 2-year research on the subject: International students’ expenses in the Netherlands and how to manage their money. Franklin said that through his research he found that many students lacked information about money management. He collated all the information and based on his own experience as an international student, he came up with the idea of writing a book to help all students manage their money better. The book is titled “Living Rich as a Student in the Netherlands” and will be published in 2020. The book is about a “frugal lifestyle”, that is, a frugal life that teaches you to save money so that you will always have money. Franklin gives many valuable tips in the book on aspects such as student money management. The book is very popular and successful, and it has helped many students solve their financial problems. The best time to develop the habit of managing money and saving is when you are young. Franklin has been giving presentations about studying in the Netherlands at Arubano Academy since 2018 and every year he conducts a budgeting workshop for students who are continuing their studies abroad. Franklin is working with the Aruban Department of Education (DEA) and the Dutch Aruban Cabinet on this. In July, Franklin held a workshop for students to learn how to manage money. The workshop was very successful and was well attended by students, parents, and DPS representatives. It provided a lot of information for our students who are about to study abroad. At the end of the meeting, Franklin handed over the book “Enriching Life for Students in the Netherlands” to the Minister of Education and Sports. Minister Endy Kroes was impressed with all the information received as a gift in the book and was very grateful. In conclusion, Minister Endy Kroes thanked Franklin for his visit and wished him success in his career.
