Santo Domingo, August 24 – The Ministry of Education (Minerd) reported this Saturday that it has reached agreements with 119 schools to welcome students who could not attend public schools due to lack of places.
Minerd President Ángel Hernández said in a statement that “no student will be excluded from the classroom” during the 2024-2025 school year, which begins on Monday, August 26.
In response to the lack of space in schools, Minard issued Department Order No. 25-2024, which provides continuity for the Program of Attention to School Overcrowding (PASE) to ensure the availability of space for students to continue their studies through agreements with private institutions.
Welcoming 5,000 people
According to Minerd, 5,000 people are expected to benefit from PASE this school year.
According to the latest update to the decree, each private educational institution will receive P28,350 to cover enrollment fees for the entire academic year.
Respond to ADP Complaints
Regarding the complaint by the president of the Dominican Teachers Association (ADP), Eduardo Hidalgo, that private schools do not offer extended classes, Minard clarified that “not all public sector centers offer extended classes.”
Likewise, the education agency insists that its fundamental mission is to “ensure education,” so schools participating in the program will submit monthly reports to the education district on student attendance, academic performance, and family involvement and support. EFE
