The total number of non-EU/EFTA migrants fell by almost 66,000 to 165,000 in 2023. This decline was entirely due to a drop in the number of refugees from Ukraine.

Immigrants from EU/EFTA countries are more likely to leave the Netherlands at a later date than non-EU/EFTA immigrants. Ten years after arriving in the Netherlands, almost half of non-EU/EFTA immigrants have left the Netherlands, but among EU/EFTA immigrants this proportion is closer to three quarters.
