29 women from different regions recently completed a three-week sustainable fashion training as part of the programMetamorphosis Initiativesupported by the US Embassy.
This innovative programme enables participants to acquire essential skills and techniques in eco-responsible fashion design, such as recycling and upcycling, pattern sketching, embroidery and raffia crochet.
Yvette has been crocheting since she was 8 years old and travelled from Fandriana to attend the workshop. I came here to improve my crochet experience and learn new techniques through the Raffia Crochet Workshop. “, she said. Another participant, Ravaka, shared her enthusiasm: ” Thanks to this workshop, I now know what to do with the plastic bottles I save – I will transform them into elegant jewellery using raffia. »
Eva Lamba, one of the workshop instructors and a former participant in the US government exchange program, stressed the importance of sustainable development: “ Sustainability is not just about practices, it’s also about the materials and human capital we invest in. »
Led by a team of seven professional stylists who participated in the 2020 International Visitor Leaders Program (IVLP) for Fashion Entrepreneurs, Metamorphose aims to raise awareness of the environmental impact of the fashion industry, support female entrepreneurship in fashion design and encourage collaboration among entrepreneurs participating in U.S. government-funded programs.
Launched in June, the project includes a series of lectures and exhibitions, as well as fashion shows and workshops on the basics of fashion design. The initiative represents an important step towards a more sustainable and inclusive future for the fashion industry.
