Messi is missing from Argentina’s squad as they prepare to play in two 2026 World Cup qualifiers scheduled for the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Head coach Lionel Scaloni has unveiled the roster for the “Tango” squad, which includes 28 players and will face Chile on September 6 and Colombia on September 10.
Messi is absent from the national team list because he has not recovered from the right ankle ligament injury he suffered in the 2024 Copa America final, which witnessed Argentina’s 16th championship in history.
The 37-year-old has also been absent from recent fixtures for United States club Inter Miami.
