The Criminal Security Department in Homs arrested members of a gang that was found guilty of breaking into an oil pipeline and stealing oil materials.
“The recent attack near the village of Umm Qahwa in the Al-Furqalus district is under investigation, where unidentified individuals attacked the oil pipeline and stole oil materials by making holes in the pipeline,” the Ministry of Interior said in a statement today. “The attack was carried out with cutting and welding equipment, hammers and generators, which led to … a fire, and the truck towing a tanker behind it was burned.”
The ministry added: “A body was found and its owner identified. Through follow-up, research, investigation and preparation of the necessary ambush in the desert outskirts, the above-mentioned branch arrested two members of the group, who, through interrogation, confessed their actions. Based on their evidence, five other people were arrested who assisted the group in hiding the stolen oil derivatives and covering up its crimes.”
The Ministry of Transport said that after necessary inspections of the burned vehicle, it was found that the vehicle was not registered with the Transport Bureau. Investigations and research are still ongoing to arrest the remaining members of the gang, and those arrested will be brought back to the competent judicial authorities.
