During the summer, Dagens Media checked in with a number of industry profiles to find out how their holiday plans were going and what issues they were facing when they returned to work.
Mats EnbomPresident and CEO of Gota Media:
What do you look forward to doing in your downtime?
– I recently became a grandfather for the first time and was really looking forward to taking care of my grandchildren at our summer home in the Luleå Archipelago.
What media won’t you take a break from during the holidays?
– I probably won’t interrupt my media consumption at all. It’s so entertaining that it continues even on vacation. Of course, the works of Gota Media, which I follow digitally every day, have the highest priority. Norrbottens-Kuliron is also clearly a hit with holiday residents in Luleå. Dagens Nyheter and of course Dagens Media (!) are other sources of daily news. Another pleasant media consumption tends to increase significantly for me in the summer – listening to music.
What are the most important issues your company needs to address when you return this fall?
– After a year of great changes, we have many important issues. Now we will reap the success of all the changes implemented within Gota Media. The most important issue by far is the conquest of the younger target group as subscribers. We are already a little on the way, but need to speed up the development of editorial content, packaging, presentation and services to become even more relevant to young people. Another important thing is to make sure that we continue to actively develop our readership business, our goal is to increase the Group’s total circulation. The advertising business is also a high priority, we have to flatten the curve and stop the loss of revenue. I am generally optimistic that within Gota Media we have given ourselves the opportunity to succeed thanks to the measures we have implemented together.
What was most challenging about the spring season for you or your company?
– For me and the team, this is not a single challenge, but a combination of several major challenges that are happening at the same time. Initiating and leading several major changes in so many areas at the same time is challenging. At the same time, this is what makes the work so interesting and brings energy and job satisfaction to me and my employees. Unprecedented changes create opportunities and huge room for development for all of us.
