Master data literacy and embrace the new era of digital AI (Chen Longwei) – EJ Tech

Recently, I was fortunate to be invited to attend a data training camp co-organized by the Data Literacy Association and OpenCertHub Academy at the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong. The purpose of the training camp is to cultivate students’ data literacy skills to meet the workplace needs in the era of artificial intelligence and digital economy. Through the two-day training camp, we focused on training students’ data thinking patterns and data story communication.

On the first day, 4 teams (20 students in total) participated inDr. Victor Ng After a workshop led by the team, the team learned the necessary data thinking and skills and developed the ability to tell influential data stories, and then began to present their projects. Each team was required to choose one of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a focus and identify specific business opportunities in that SDG with the support of data analysis. During this period, the expert mentors includedDr. Victor Ng ,Andy Kwok,Elaine Wang andPersonalDuring the discussion, students should first understand the focus of each SDG and the pain points of stakeholders, and describe them in the most appropriate data analysis method, and then explore various potential business opportunities, feasible operating models and related pros and cons and risks.

On the second day, we mainly focused on guiding students to draft presentations, using the data storytelling skills learned on the first day to strongly persuade investors, business partners and customers to participate in business projects. During the event, each team enthusiastically presented their projects. The jury worked hard to select the “Best Data Storytelling Team”, “Best Data Collaboration Team” and “Best Data Talent” awards from the distinctive teams and projects. Evergrande students spoke highly of this data training camp and unanimously agreed that the data skills they acquired were invaluable for their studies and future careers. Some student teams even worked together all night on the first day to deeply analyze various data and produce high-quality presentations.

In today’s era of artificial intelligence and digital economy, data is the third language that every business leader can use (after English and Chinese in Hong Kong and mainland China), so we have been committed to cultivating students’ data literacy skills (such as data thinking patterns and data storytelling), and believe that no matter what job students choose, the data literacy skills and business skills learned in these two days (including innovative business projects, good cooperation with teammates/business partners, making convincing business plans, and effectively presenting business plans) will greatly help their future careers. These two days only cover Level 1 of the entire bootcamp program, focusing on data communication. We look forward to holding Level 2 in the future, which will enable students to innovate with data.

It is worth noting that the National Data Bureau recently issued a central policy to point out the direction of data development to build a digital economic development mechanism and establish an efficient, convenient and secure cross-border data flow mechanism. Locally, the Hong Kong Government also officially established the Digital Policy Office in July this year, led by Mr. Wong Chi-kwong, JP, the Digital Policy Commissioner, to formulate data-driven, user-oriented and result-oriented policies and support measures, leading policy bureaus/departments and leading different sectors to accelerate the development of digital government and smart city construction, thereby improving government efficiency and service quality, and facilitating the public and business. Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, said: “Digitalization can help social and economic development, improve government operational efficiency and innovate public services. Digital technology and data are also important elements to drive high-quality development and new quality productivity. The Digital Office advocates digital policies based on innovative technology and data, and strives to lead government bureaus/departments to use innovative technology to optimize public services and implement more digital government measures that are convenient for the public and business, in order to meet the ever-changing needs and public expectations in the digital age.” These information are enough to show that data literacy has become a must-have skill in this digital age, whether for government public departments, commercial organizations, working people, students, etc. What we need to think about is how to equip ourselves to embrace the future.Data Literacy AssociationAs a founding member of the Data Literacy Association (DaLa), I warmly invite you to join us.DaraCommunity, grow with us and explore the powerful power of data together.
