The Socialist Movement (MAS) failed to reach an agreement on the party congress and the leadership of Evo Morales during a meeting with the president of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), Oscar Hassenteufel, who is awaiting the decision of the electoral body to sign a political agreement to suspend the primaries.
“An important channel of dialogue has been opened, but it has not been exhausted or closed. We will come back in 10 days. Continue to seek solutions that strengthen the electoral institutions institutionally and any solution that is within the normative and democratic framework,” said MAS representative Diego Jiménez as he left the meeting with Hasentefel.
On Wednesday, during a political conference held by the TSE, former President Evo Morales said: His party was recognized at its congress in Lauca (Cochabamba) or the renewal of the directive indicated by the electoral body, whose deadline is due on September 3 next year, has been suspended.
Morales insists on holding closed primary Seeking nomination as a MAS candidate, But at the helm is President Luis Arce, who is also seeking re-election. Both have been declared victorious by their respective followers.
Jiménez planned this meeting, and then Evo Morales came to sign the political agreement; however, no white smoke came out and Jiménez received a response from the president of the country’s Supreme Electoral Court.
“We have asked in the past that we be received, and former President Evo was also received, at least now We know the president doesn’t make decisions on his own. It has to be plenary, they are collective decisions, that is why we ask for the opening of the plenary to democratically review its actions,” the political representative said.
To date, 11 of the 12 political forces recognized by the TSE have agreed to suspend the primaries against the will of Morales. On Friday, July 6, the Vice President sent the draft bill to suspend these elections to the House of Representatives, which officially began processing the document.
