San Pedro Sula – Maquiladora workers protested for the third day in a row, demanding liquidation, after a 120-day stoppage at the Villanueva plant in Cortes department.
Protesters said Zip Buena Vista’s owners announced the layoffs via text message.
They accused the Ministry of Labour authorities of siding with the companies instead of defending their labour rights.
“We are fighting for our rights and they say they are paying us but that is not true,” one protester said.
They also condemned the police authorities for suppressing them and violating their right to protest without compromising traffic in the area.
On Tuesday, workers at the processing plant were evicted by police, who threw protesters to the ground with water tanks.
