Eldrige R., 32, was stopped by police Thursday night while drunk with a 15-year-old girl in Suriname. He was detained for elopement.
Eldridge met his 15-year-old girlfriend, TK, through his 14-year-old daughter. They arranged to take a long drive from Paramaribo to Para on Thursday evening. Neither Eldridge nor the girl had permission from their parents or guardians to make the trip.
During the ride, the suspect drank alcohol. After getting drunk, he asked the 15-year-old girl to continue driving. After a while, the drunk and the girl saw a police car and quickly exchanged positions.
The Risdyke police officer who was conducting surveillance in the aforementioned police car noticed suspicious behavior and stopped the motorist. The Risdyke police officer briefly questioned the two people in the car.
Police observed that the 32-year-old driver was intoxicated, which he admitted. After coordination with the Surinamese Prosecution Service, his driver’s license was confiscated. He was also detained for elopement.
It is understood that the girl had run away from home more than once. A man was also said to have been detained for committing adultery with her before. Eldridge denied having sexual relations with the girl.
