Two men have been charged after they were detained on Monday on suspicion of illegal possession of a firearm on Cherry Tree Lane in Clarendon.
The two were Devonte Jackson, 24, a construction worker on Cherry Tree Lane, and Rick Edwards, 22, a farmer on Lawson Avenue in the Four Roads area of Clarendon.
They were both charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition.
The officers detained the men while patrolling the community following the mass shooting, which left eight people dead.
Meppen police said that around 10:30 a.m., a team of officers spotted two motorcycles entering the community.
They were stopped and one of them ran away, leading to a chase that ended with Jackson being captured by law enforcement.
Police said a black and gray messenger bag was found on Jackson, which contained a black Taurus 9mm handgun and a magazine with 12 rounds of ammunition.
Jackson reportedly told police that the bag was given to him by Edwards, but Edwards denied that.
Both were subsequently arrested and charged.
Court dates are currently being scheduled for both men.
