Investigators from St. Catherine North Police Station have charged Junior Coleman, 23, with murdering a man and injuring several people at a memorial service for entertainer Christopher Martin’s grandmother last week.
Coleman, also known as “CJ”, from Tredegar Park, St Catherine, is accused of murdering worker O’Neill Spencer, 34, of Back Pastures.
Coleman is also charged with conspiracy to commit murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, aiding a criminal organization in the commission of a serious crime, shooting with intent, intentional wounding, possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition.
Police said that at about 12.40am on August 21, the accused went to Back Pasture with three other men carrying illegal firearms.
They reportedly opened fire indiscriminately on people attending the wake.
Several people were shot and injured during the attack.
Spencer was shot in the upper torso and head and died from his injuries.
Coleman was arrested by police and charged following a question-and-answer session on Monday.
He has reportedly given a warning statement to police.
A date for his court appearance is being set.
