A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempting to strangle a womanpolice said on Monday.
The man was arrested by British base police in Akrotiri on Sunday.
The woman reported to Famagusta regional police on Saturday that she was attacked in her hotel room by a man she “had known recently”.
According to reports, the man Beat her and then tried to strangle hercausing her to lose consciousness.
When the woman regained consciousness, she screamed for help and people nearby called an ambulance.
She was then rushed to Famagusta General Hospital in Paralimni and received emergency treatment.
The man is due to appear in court at the UK base on Mondayand then handed over to the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus.
The police investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
