Medellin, Colombia).- Maluma and Blessd escaped from their fear and ventured to become a seed in the urban genre by recording the joint album “1 Of 1”, the first between the two Colombian artists, an experience that allowed them to return to the community and become “an example of a generation. ” who keeps dreaming.
In an interview with EFE in Medellín before the launch of their new album on Thursday, “Don Juan” and “El Bendito” said that they joined forces to give life to a project that emerged in a “fluid” and “organic” way. The night of the Music Bets, where they will perform internationally this Saturday in Monterrey.
“The idea was mine, but we’ve worked together so many times and have such a beautiful relationship that this would have happened regardless. We’ve had a very beautiful friendship over the years,” Maluma said.
The translator of “Hawai” and “Cuatro Babys” also recalled that “I have been following Blessd since he started his career and know very well everything he does” and he even gave him a boost in his 2021 collaboration: “Impossible” Remix’.
A dream showed the way for “Papi Juancho”, as Maluma is also known, to join hands with his dear friend, whom he calls “perro” or “güevón”, to create an album unprecedented in his country that illustrates a level of intimacy and complicity.
“I called him one day. It was January of this year. I think I had a dream about this, and I woke up one day and said, ‘Dog, do you think this sounds like us making an album together?’ And this guy (replied) ‘In one.’ I called him on a video call, and the call was recorded and we posted it online,” Maluma said.
The entire Blessd crew heard the proposal and were surprised, but approved to start shaping “1 of 1” in a “very cool (and nice)” process because everything went really well from there. Very natural and organic.”
Become the seed of the genre
For “El Bendito”, who agrees with his “partner” on everything and thanks him for supporting his talent from the beginning, this reggaeton album, in collaboration with the Puerto Rican rapper Hades66 with the song “Sisas nada”, will surpass the precedents.
“It will be a very good thing, besides being the first time that two artists of the urban genre in Colombia will do this; it is the most beautiful thing and we will leave a little seed there,” Blaise told EFE.
He added: “We are the first, we are the ones who dare, who are not afraid; we are going to break it in an incredible way.”
1 Of 1 took them back to their roots, even touring the Antioquia neighborhood, a popular corner of Medellín, where they recorded the video for one of the singles from the album, “Call me,” which features songs like “Oe, baby” and “Manrique.”
“We wanted to show the essence and reality of this community, not the negative stuff, but the beautiful and positive stuff,” Maluma said of where it all began for “El Bendito,” owner of hits like “Medallo” and “The Silk Cutter’ .
“Blessd is a clear example of someone who comes from the Antioquia community and is breaking it. My story is similar, in many ways. We are role models for a whole generation who want to continue to dream,” said “Don Juan.”
After performing the six songs at the Carlos Vico Amphitheater in Medellín, Maluma confirmed that he will sing at the King’s League final this Saturday at the BBVA Rayados Stadium in Monterrey.
