Bamako, August 5 (Xinhua) — The transitional government of Mali announced on the 5th that because Ukraine admitted its involvement in the aggression against Mali, Mali’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization Abdoulaye Maiga said in a statement on the 5th that the transitional government of Mali will immediately sever diplomatic relations with Ukraine.

Maiga, who is also the government spokesman, said the decision was a response to “subversive statements” by Ukrainian military intelligence spokesman Andrei Yusov, who recently admitted Ukraine’s involvement in an attack by “armed terrorist groups” in Tinza Otne that killed Malian defense and security forces personnel.

On July 30, the Malian Armed Forces reported that they suffered “significant casualties” during fierce fighting with a “terrorist alliance” in the country’s northeast on July 26.

Since 2012, Mali has been grappling with the spread of terrorism and a multidimensional deep crisis that includes security, political, economic and humanitarian challenges.
