Members of the Malaita Provincial Parliament have resolved their differences and pledged to work together for the progress of the province and the Solomon Islands as a whole.
Malaita MPs held a reconciliation ceremony at the Paul Tobua Building in Honiara today to resolve their differences in the past and during the recent national elections.
Opposition Leader Matthew Wale has apologised on behalf of the Opposition Malaita MPs to the Government side Malaita MPs for insensitive remarks he made about other Malaita MPs in the past and during the campaign.
“I sincerely apologise for any comments that may have caused harm to my brothers. This is an important assignment that will pave the way for a new relationship among our Malaita leaders to advance the development aspirations of our province and the country as a whole,” he said.
Minister of Infrastructure and Development Manasseh Maelanga also apologised on behalf of the Malaita MP on the government side for past remarks directed at his fellow opposition members.

The Maerlanga MP said Malaita MPs must work together to promote the interests of the people and the country as a whole.
“Let us put aside our differences, forgive and forget, and work together to advance the development goals of our province and country,” he said.
Independence Party leader Peter Kenilorea Jnr made similar comments.
Councilman Kenny Lorea said the settlement was timely and the right way forward.

Malaita MPs attend reconciliation ceremony
He said the people of Malaita wanted to see national leaders working together.
Other Malaita MPs also took turns expressing their wish for Malaita MPs to work with other national leaders.
Maletan councillors have agreed to a resolution to continue working together.
The Malaita MPs present were:

- Member for Arearea East, Mr Peter Kenilorea Jnr
- Mr. John Maneniaru, Member of Parliament for Arearea West
- Baegu Asifola MP, Hon Makario Tagini
- Member of Parliament for Fataleka, Mr. Rex Ramo Fafia
- Rick Hou, Member of Parliament for Little Malaita
- Hon Ben Maenu’u, Member of Parliament for Lau Baelelea Constituency
- The Hon Polycarp Paea, Member of Parliament for Malaita Outer Islands Constituency
- Mr. Claudius Tei’fi, Member of Parliament for Western Kwayo Province
- Mr. Alfred Tuasulia, Member of Parliament for Kwarai West Constituency
- The Honourable Maurice Toirana, Member for Honiara East
Absent:
- Hon Rick Fuo, Member of Parliament for the Central Kwarai Constituency (currently on an official visit to Palau)
- Hon Stanley Sofu, MP for Kwayo East (ill)
- Daniel Waneoroa, Member of Parliament for North Malaita (on business trip)
The three MPs pledged their full support for the new initiative.
This week, Malaita MPs will travel to Oki to take part in Malaita Day celebrations.
