India’s Petronet LNG Limited (PLL) and Sri Lanka’s LTL Holdings Limited today (August 20) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of LNG infrastructure and supply of LNG to Sri Lanka.
The MoU focuses on providing innovative solutions, including the supply of LNG through a multimodal ISO container supply chain. It involves the development of an LNG offloading, storage and regasification facility at Keralapitiya, Colombo, and the supply of LNG through LNG ISO tank containers from PLL’s Cochin LNG terminal to the power generation facilities at the Sobadanavi Power Plant in Sri Lanka.
The signing ceremony was attended by Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara, Deputy High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Dr. Satyanjal Pandey and senior officials of the Sri Lankan government.
Under the terms of the MoU, PLL will explore the supply of LNG to fuel 230 MW gas turbines at Pitiya, Kerala, ensuring cleaner, reliable and round-the-clock power generation.
