In 2023, the amount of subsidies provided by the Mahina Municipality to sports, cultural and other associations almost doubled from 2022, from 9.8 to 18.3 million XPF.
19 associations and 7 individuals benefit from subsidies between 2019 and 2023
According to observations by the Territorial Accountants’ Association (CTC), sports associations received almost half of the subsidies: 23.6 MF CFP out of a total of 50.3 MF CFP.
In 2023, subsidies for cultural and social associations increased significantly: from an average of 675,000 CFA francs in the period 2019-2022 to 6.6 CFA francs in 2023. The main beneficiaries of this aid are the association TE UI TAURE’A NO OROFARA, which helps young people in Mahina participate in traditional and sports celebrations on the island (Hura Tapairu and Toa Mo’a), and the PAINAVINUTI federation, which carries out a social project in favor of employees of Mahina Municipality.
Please note that since 2022, following the same procedure as the Association, the Municipality provides athletes with a nominal grant only in the event of participation in international events. However, this only represents a cumulative 400,000 F CFP since 2022.
Finally, the CTC noted that the municipality will take care to improve the traceability of grant allocations and control operations in areas where there are legal risks.
