New opportunities for young leaders in Madagascar and Africa. The U.S. Embassies in Madagascar and Comoros announced in a press release that applications for the 2025 YALI Mandela Washington Fellowships are being accepted starting today. The program, part of the U.S. government’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), seeks emerging leaders between the ages of 25 and 35 who are recognized for their commitment and dedication to community development.
No fewer than 110 Malagasy leaders have had the opportunity to benefit from the program since 2014, which has had a significant impact on local development. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Yale Mandela Washington Scholarship, which strongly symbolizes the United States’ commitment to young Africans and the critical role they play in promoting economic growth, democratic governance, and peace on the continent.
Fellows will have the opportunity to attend a six-week leadership institute at American University, joining 700 peers from across the region. The program will emphasize key areas such as business, civic engagement and public administration. In addition, fellows will attend a leadership summit in Washington, D.C., sharing the stage with leaders from the U.S. government and private sector.
At the end of the journey, participants will benefit from ongoing support from the U.S. Department of State, including professional development, mentoring, networking, and project seed funding.
