This Friday morning, UEFA drew the 36 teams for the new Champions League stage. In this new formula, each will have the right to play eight games against as many different opponents as possible, half of which will be home games and the other half away. This now replaces the traditional group stage. To qualify in eighth place, you must be in the top eight in the overall ranking. The teams ranked 9th to 24th will play in a play-off to advance to the knockout stage.
Accustomed to it now, Bulgarian champions Ludogorets will play at this stage of the competition for the fourth consecutive season. Olivier Verdon and his team were eliminated by Azerbaijan Qarabag in the third qualifying round of the Champions League, but they made up for it by playing against Moldova in the Europa League play-off. In this new formula, the Benin international and his team will host the following clubs: the Czechs from Slavia Prague, the Dutch from AZ Alkmaar, the Spanish from Athletic Bilbao and the Danes from the Central Region. In terms of travel, they will have: the Italians from Roma Lazio, the French from Lyon, the Czechs from Viktoria Plzen and the Belgians from Andrade. UEFA will publish the official schedule this Saturday.
