Is this really what the king wants?

While they may portray this with slogans like taking care of taxpayer dollars or eliminating racism, it doesn’t make sense to me. Last week, Plunkett hosted a far-right extremist who believed stories of the massacre were propaganda and the Black Power movement was rubbish.
This is all populist line. Bring it to the people, but manipulate the people, AKA Brexitto ensure everything goes smoothly.
It might sound a bit boring given how many times this tactic has been used – but it is, in fact, a very successful political strategy. It has been used by leaders around the world, including in the Philippines, Brazil, and the rise of the far right in Europe.
That’s why I feel a little embarrassed when I hear Simeon Brown constantly complaining about “the will of the people”, “giving it to the people” and “National is the people’s party”. how They adopted this approach.
We all support democracy, but I can’t imagine any of us willingly being manipulated.
Simeon, a devout Christian, seems to have consciously or unconsciously moved down the path of an authoritarian populist, which in my view is not good news for New Zealand.
However, Luxon and his team are not facing resistance now. Many councils are discussing how to avoid a costly and timely referendum, but I am more concerned about security.
