Emergency services received around 400 calls and had to rescue several people after severe weather triggered flooding in southern Luxembourg last night, causing water levels to rise to one metre in parts of the province.

“We have to rescue people trapped in the water,” the emergency center of the Luxembourg emergency zone reported on Sunday. Due to the bad weather, flooding occurred in many places in the south of our province. The water level in some streets rose to one meter. Last night, the emergency zone received about 400 calls.

The bad weather mainly affected the village of Aubange and the municipality of Artus, on the border with the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and France, but intervention measures were also required in Arlon, Mousson and Virton. Firefighters in the south of the department were supported by civil protection and the fire brigades of Marche, Bastogne, Bouillon, Neufchâteau and Étal. Most calls were made between 10:15 pm and 5 am, mainly for pumping water and flooded roads.

Last night, Artus received 64 millimeters of rain in one hour and Aubonre 61 millimeters, and in six hours the amounts reached 71 millimeters and 68 millimeters respectively, weather forecaster David Dehenauw said in a message about the total precipitation in these cities. Rainy day starts

The rest of the country also looks set for rain on Sunday and early this week. On Sunday morning, it will initially rain in the east, but then it will become dry everywhere, with alternating sunny and cloudy skies. In the afternoon, more clouds will appear on the coast again, and showers will reach the center of the country in the evening. The maximum temperature will be 17 degrees in the high marshes, 19 degrees on the seaside and 21 or 22 degrees in the center. This is reported by the RMI.

Sunday night will be sunny to partly cloudy with showers in many places. During the night, western and central parts will become drier. Showers are likely in the east until late at night. Some clear spells will gradually appear in the west.

The last showers will leave the country on Monday morning via the east. Afterwards, partly cloudy to sometimes cloudy weather with a slight change in the weather and local showers. The maximum temperature will be 15 degrees in the high marshes and 19 or 20 degrees in the middle and lower parts of Belgium.

Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with showers or rain. It will remain cool for this time of year, with a maximum of 14 degrees in the High Ardennes and 19 to 20 degrees in the central areas. Wednesday will be cloudy to overcast with rain or showers from the North Sea. The maximum temperature will fluctuate between 15 and 19 degrees, with moderate to strong west to south-westerly winds near the sea.
