MEXICO CITY (APRO) – President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has acknowledged that there have been “failures” and “mistakes” during his six years in office.
“We think we’ve laid the groundwork and made a lot of progress, but there’s still a lot of work to do. I can’t talk specifically about failures, we do have them, we make mistakes because we’re human. To point out the mistakes and failures, we leave it to our adversaries, that’s their job, they’re dedicated to it, and if I do it for them, that would be the final straw,” he said.
Asked what programs had not worked as he had planned at the start of his six-year term, the president declared: “I can’t speak specifically to the failures that we did have.”
President López Obrador stressed that his government “has laid the foundations” and has made great progress, but he acknowledged that “there is still a lot to do” and expressed confidence in the continued transformation of the country following Claudia Sheinbaum’s victory.
He said he left the job of talking about the government’s failures to his “opponents because that’s their job,” noting that it would be the final straw if he did their job for them as well.
He cited media reports of power outages in May due to high demand for energy caused by rising temperatures in the country.
“Here’s an example button, when we had a problem, we had a 3-day outage because there was a lot of heat and power demand, and we launched a campaign (…) which generated 4,251 comments, 99% against, and only 1% without “bias”.
