The NWC is aware of a video circulating online in which a group of people make comments about the NWC before sliding through the waterway.

The company wishes to remind the public that the location highlighted in the video is not an NWC facility.

Additionally, water utilities wish to share general updates on measures typically taken regarding the safety and treatment of water supplied to the public.

• River water is usually utilized near the source of the river or through a separate canal leading to the NWC plant.

Note: Rivers only account for one-third of the water used by NWC. Most water comes from wells and springs, which are usually used only by NWC.

• NWC also collects raw water samples from many large river sources before the water enters its treatment facilities. This is a precautionary measure designed to protect water quality—even before treatment begins.

• The water is then treated and distributed to customers according to the standards of the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

• Collect, test and monitor samples daily from all water supplies to ensure these standards are maintained to protect the health and safety of the public.

The Nigerian Water Commission wishes to assure the public that its staff and security teams will work tirelessly to monitor and protect the sources and treatment plants used to provide the Jamaican people with this vital resource for daily life and commerce.
