Karlsruhe Castle celebrates 75th anniversary of the Basic Law

For ten years, artists have been projecting works on the baroque façade of Karlsruhe Palace. The history of the German Constitution is much older. The two are now combined in a special way.
On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law, the theme of this year’s castle light show at Karlsruhe Castle is “Everyone Counts”. The 170-meter-wide Baroque façade will be illuminated every evening until September 15. There is no admission fee for the 10th Light Festival.
This time the focus is on law and democracy The organizers also explained the overall situation: “Especially in fragile times like these, when rights, democracy, peace and values are under attack from many sides, attitudes and commitment are more important than ever.” The motto “Everyone Counts” emphasizes the importance of equality, participation, unrestricted fundamental rights and freedom from fear in a world that seems increasingly polarized and competitive.

During the four weeks, various so-called projection mapping works can be seen – a form of media art in which individually adjusted video projections are projected onto an object. The castle light show starts at 11.15pm from Sunday to Thursday and ends at 11.30pm on Friday and Saturday. In addition, under the theme “Media Art is Here”, the city’s public spaces, facades and shop windows will be transformed into digital stages throughout the period, presenting free installations, videos and performances as well as interdisciplinary projects.
