They asked the Ministry of Defense to make the 80th anniversary celebrations reflect the Western roots of the act and the wishes of the rebels. PS Vice President Toomas Valasek and SaS MP Juraj Krupa published an open letter to the Minister of Defense and Deputy Prime Minister Kaliniak.
“The SNP was primarily an act of courage by members of the Slovak army, led by the government-in-exile in London. The rebels, who also included Czech and French fighters, also aimed to return to the free community of Western European states. At a time when questions about Slovakia’s geopolitical direction are once again emerging, it is significant that these roots of the uprising appear in the official celebrations of its 80th anniversary,” Valashek noted in the letter.
The representatives noted that the full list of speakers at the official celebrations prepared by the ministry is still unknown. “We are confident that the content and choreography of the performances as part of the national celebrations will be faithful to the true message of the Scottish National Party and not the version promoted by some politicians in the communist regime and the government coalition,” said Valashek. He also stressed that they believe the public should know the names of the performers in advance, as the celebrations are funded by the public’s taxes.
