They remind me of the brief words given by Colombian Senator María Fernanda Cabal at the Voices of Liberty conference recently organized by right-wing leaders in Madrid. I was struck by the simplicity with which he said what should and should not be done: let’s be honest, we see what we see through our own eyes, not through the eyes of the left.
We are well aware of many of his claims, they worry us deeply, such as that Latin America is on the edge of the abyss, but they lead us on the path of a narco-state, in addition to turning us into a failed socialist country. , which is even worse because it includes, in addition to drug trafficking, a fraudulent long-term hold on power, dictatorship and violence. Senator Cabal said that what is happening in Cuba “vampires” Venezuela and is going through Bolivia, Nicaragua and is heading to Colombia. If it is not so, one cannot protect one’s children, one’s family, one’s home, one’s education, one’s customs, because that is conservatism, and all of this must be destroyed by the decisive force of the left. .
The senator said that socialists and communists tell their stories as they see fit, they invent myths, they create legends that influence and inspire young people; naturally, they hide their failures, the poverty, the extreme suffering of the countries they rule, and the terrible deaths of hunger and humiliation of their subjects. In Bolivia, we can say that, like a utopia of paradise, the legend of “Che” Guevara emerged in Caguazú do Sul, convinced many young people of his greatness, and they were willing to die for this ideal, while the truth is that his guerrilla war was erratic, lost, cursed, and in the end almost all members died, were shot or fled, but did not produce a greater effect than communist propaganda. Teo Ponte is another sad story of the Bolivian left, which ended with the universal shooting of the surrendered guerrillas and was forgotten over time. What is the benefit? Telling this feat to other young people, this time they think better.
It is different from the right, which lacks enough historians, chroniclers, journalists, narrators of moving deeds, instead of showing heroes. Not knowing how to tell stories, they do what they are familiar with, that is, to appeal to numbers, balance sheets, statistics, in short, to real stories of great achievements, which many people are not interested in. Moreover, we know that the right creates wealth, but the command is exhausted and the management is performed democratically, while the left takes over on time, spends everything and basks in the frenzy of popularity. Despite this, according to Senator Cabal, the right is “invincible” because it does not have to beg for anything from the state or become an unconditional bureaucrat who needs a salary. In short, the betrayal of the truth is more powerful than the lie, and it must be done in order to snatch youth from the “progressivism” of monopolistic idealists and careless people.
The fact is that the left appeals to romanticism and heroism in its stories and attracts many sympathies. It gives the impression that everyone will make sacrifices and go through hardships if necessary to achieve economic and social equality, without offending the shameful wealth of others. However, as we have already observed, once the socialists take over the government, the story and the story ends, a superior, privileged ruling circle is created, while the rest of the population, encouraged by official propaganda, continues in the same or worse condition, having to show loyalty to the regime even to get food and lose political freedom. The example of the Soviet Union, Eastern Europe and Cuba is the best example of this deception. And those countries that were able to get rid of socialism, such as several once poor countries in Asia, have become prosperous capitalist countries, first of all the admirable Vietnam, which was previously a fierce enemy of capitalism.
We all know that there is no country that has not experienced hunger, cold and a life without hope when it fell into the clutches of communism or socialism. The samples we see today in Latin America are deplorable. Unfortunately, this is the path chosen by the MAS in both of its factions, a collective suicide that we must avoid.
