Katie Ledecky continued her run of success at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris on Thursday.
Ledecky earned her 13th Olympic medal as the U.S. team won silver in the 4x200m freestyle relay.
This makes her the most admired female athlete in American history.
Ledecky ran the third leg of Thursday’s relay and finished in 1:54.93.
Ledecky won the 1,500-meter freestyle on Wednesday and set an Olympic record, giving her eight career Olympic gold medals and 12 medals overall.
That puts her in a tie with Jenny Thompson, Dara Torres and Natalie Coughlin for the most decorated U.S. women in Olympic history. Thursday’s relay gave her sole first place.
She’ll have a chance to repeat as she competes in the 800m freestyle this weekend.
What makes Ledecky great is not just the number of medals she has won in her career, but the way she wins, making her one of the most dominant Olympians of all time.
When watching her races, she is the only one in the frame, which is not uncommon as she is so far ahead of all the other runners. This was the case in Wednesday’s 1,500m race.
The 27-year-old may not be done with the Paris Olympics yet. Has repeatedly stated She is eyeing the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, where she will have a chance to continue to improve her total.
