NASSAU | After the May 2024 shooting of Michael Fox Jr., leaked audio recordings surfaced implicating a high-ranking police officer in a corruption scandal related to a major robbery in November 2023.
The voice recording purportedly captured a conversation between Foxx Jr. and the officers, who suggested a deal to drop the criminal charges for $100,000.
The dispute stems from a brazen theft at a local bank, where $1.4 million was stolen during a transport, and only $45,000 was subsequently recovered.
The incident sparked a high-profile investigation, with police issuing wanted warrants for Fox II and another suspect, Dino Smith, both of whom were suspected of being involved in the robbery.
According to the leaked audio recording, Fox Jr. and the officer discussed a quid pro quo, but the officer told Fox he did not want to discuss the matter over the phone and wanted to do it in person.
The agreement stipulated that Fox Jr. would pay $100,000 to secure his and Dino Smith’s release from police surveillance. The officer allegedly assured Fox Jr. that he would arrange everything to accommodate the absence of Police Chief Clayton Fernand, suggesting that this was an elaborate operation to evade consequences.
The leaked recordings also revealed discussions involving a mutual friend who acted as a middleman, named BJ, who was said to want a cut of the payout.
Fox Jr. expressed concerns about the logistics of the payment, noting that the funds were dispersed among the multiple parties involved in the robbery.
Dino Smith was questioned and released by police after the robbery, but later became a victim of gun violence, surviving the shooting but refusing to cooperate with authorities in identifying his attacker.
Tragically, in January of that year, Smith was murdered along with Chartlewells, further complicating the narrative surrounding the robbery and its aftermath.
Michael Fox Jr. suffered a similar fate in May, killed in an ambush outside a residence.
Authorities described the incident as a targeted attack involving multiple armed assailants.
Close allies of Foxx Jr. now wonder if his murder, and the earlier slaying of Dino Smith, are connected to the unsolved robbery and an alleged extortion scheme outlined in the leaked voice notes.
The emergence of the recordings has cast a shadow over law enforcement and raised serious concerns about possible corruption among senior officials.
