The founder of the project, Ms. Alia Kallel Zahaf, Assistant Professor, former Head of the ESSTED Design Space Department and member of the Scientific Committee of Manouba University, came up with the idea of compiling a census book of 70 designers. , former graduates of ESSTED who, with their talent and perseverance, have managed to establish themselves as examples of Tunisian creative talent at a national and international level. They embody a model of hope for new generations of students at ESSTED and elsewhere. In fact, the founders of the project believe that the impact of an institution can be translated into the success of its citizens. The book ESSTED 20 Years, Our Designers Here and Elsewhere pays tribute to different generations of ESSTED designers and brings together their diverse creative universe.
The project was realized under the guidance of Ms. Alia Kallel and with the collaboration of ten teachers (Alia KALLEL, Rym LAHMAR, Haîfa GHRIBI, Myriam EL GARCI, Salma ALOUANE with the collaboration of Insaf KHALED, Lamia AZZABI, Ghassen KHEMKHEM, Mohammed Malek and Bady Malki). The realization of this idea stems from the teamwork that started in March 2021, thanks to the support of GARCICOM, the marketing consultancy founded by Ms. Myriam EL GARCI, a former ESSTED graduate, and the financial support of Mr. Slah KOOLI, head of PROPANN company.
The project consists of 70 interviews, which were subsequently translated into a documentary book. Ms. Alia Kallel noted that this is the first edition of the collective work and coincides with the celebration of ESSTED’s twenty years of existence and success.
In addition to promoting the book on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the unique institution, the event held on June 19 at the Cultural City aims to democratize design culture and promote entrepreneurship among young people, while instilling hope in them who have experienced the rich and varied promotional activities that have preceded them.
The event was a place of exchange and meetings between professionals, academics and students, making it possible to discover or rediscover the inspiring careers of former nationals who, according to their respective fields of activity, have contributed to the redefinition of the role of the Tunisian designer in a changing society. The launching ceremony of the book “20 years of ESSTED, our designers here and elsewhere” gave the floor to designers, entrepreneurs and other professionals to tell their success stories and discuss future prospects in their field of activity. The various interventions form part of the introduction to the book in its five parts, recording the testimonies of the multiple profiles of the designers interviewed for the realization of this special project.
The audiovisual work projected in the Central Hall of the Cultural City plays on a loop, telling the eclectic journeys of different designers and entrepreneurs, reflecting the pride of ESSTED over the years. The book and the event dedicated to their careers and successes are an opportunity to pay tribute to the teachers and students who have left a lasting impression in the history of ESSTED, and to celebrate its rich human potential.
The project team invites design enthusiasts to discover the documentary in different formats, which will be sold in the central hall of the Cultural City during the event and then purchased in the dedicated bookstore.
