Independent opposition MP Ketan Lal called on the government to build a new state-of-the-art Colonial War Memorial Hospital facility on a priority basis as the current infrastructure is outdated and expensive to maintain.

He said instead of continuing to pour resources into the ageing hospital, the government should focus on building a new one that could meet modern medical needs.

“Continued maintenance of the old CWM facility would not only be financially burdensome, but also inefficient from an architectural and engineering perspective.”

He said building a new hospital in phases would not only be more cost-effective in the long run, but would also provide the opportunity to implement advanced medical technology and modern design principles from the outset.

“We proposed a strategic, phased construction plan, with each phase focusing on a different part of the hospital.”

“This approach will ensure the project remains manageable and financially sustainable. Through careful planning, we can maintain healthcare services with minimal disruption while moving toward our goal of a new facility.”

“Moreover, this initiative transcends political boundaries. Now is not the time for finger-pointing but a time for collaboration. The current government has a unique opportunity to take a visionary step by launching the construction of a new hospital.”

Lal said existing facilities could be repurposed for administrative or research purposes, ensuring that our infrastructure does not go to waste.

He said the new CWM Hospital will not only benefit our healthcare system but will also symbolize our commitment to the well-being of our citizens, it will demonstrate our ability to innovate and adapt, ensuring that future generations will have access to world-class healthcare.
