Hilla Group starts negotiations on changes to several newspapers published in Kainuu Narrated by Kainu Sanomat.
The negotiating parties include Kainuun Sanomat, Kuhmolainen, Ylä-Kainuu and Sotkamo-lehti and the tourism magazine Vuokatti News they produce.
The change negotiations for the Hilla Group also involve Pietarsaari Sanom, Kokkola-lehti, Kalajaska, LeviNyt! magazine and Saariselkä Sanom.
Kainuu Sanomat said the scope of the change negotiations included the delivery and layout of the magazine.
A total of 53 employees are involved in the negotiations. Changes to the negotiations could result in up to 20 layoffs.
Kainuun Sanomat said the reason for the negotiations was the decline in profitability of Kainuun Media as well as City and Tourism Media.
– Rapid changes in the external operating environment of the media industry, negative developments in advertising sales and digitalization, a decline in newspaper circulation, a sharp increase in material costs such as printing paper prices, and an increase in distribution costs are expected. According to Kainuu Sanomat, the Shira Group stated in its press release that it will continue to do so in the future.
Kainuun Sanomat said that although Hilla Group’s performance had improved significantly compared to the previous year, the group’s performance fell to a loss of 500,000 euros in the first half of this year.
